How Fi Dance
The relationship between Hip Hop and Dancehall reggae is funkier than a mosquito’s tweeter. AND, just like in Hip Hop, dance trends are plentiful. Check out the Willie Bounce, Wacky Dip, Stookie, Tek Weh Urself (i love this klip!). . . oh, yeah peep this vid . . . and this one . . . they’re full of some the dances we covered in class. Don’t get it twisted, these examples are just a drop in the bucket . . . there are 56.7 bazillion dances comin’ outta communities in the Caribbean . Lastly, I have to give props to one of my favorite dance creators/dancers, Father Bogle aka “Mr. Wacky” who is behind a score of dances that came out of Jamaica. Check out this visual tasteykake. In-joy!

in relation to our funkamentals class, i see the videos from sean paul and elephant man as slow and smooth with little hints of funk fused in between. i love how the style is so chill. its not overpowering like the professor has mentioned about LA style where its just big movements on every beat. i mean i personally dont like that kind of style b/c i think it loses its soul. plus there's no flow to it or invitation for other people to dance with you. but with this reggae-ish/dancehall approach, its just sexy and looks damn good. also, its a style where you cant fake b/c heart and a deep connection to music is mandatory in order for the style to show in your movements. anyway, its my kind of dance and i think we should learn more of it in classs or at least dance to their music.
